Departure Time

Posted on Sun Jul 26th, 2015 @ 5:23pm by Captain Tim Williams & Lieutenant Surak & Lieutenant Commander Ciaran McIntyre & Karil & Petty Officer 1st Class Irae-Kewaesi Shar

Episode: Orphans
Location: USS Highlander - Bridge
Timeline: MD30 1730hrs

As Tim sat on the bridge, scrolling through status reports on the command console trying to while away some time, the operations console chirped for the third time. "Sir, it's Gul Brenor again," the operations officer said sheepishly. "He seems to be getting rather insistent."

Tim sighed. "Fine, I suppose I'll have to talk to him, won't I?" he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Put him on, ensign."

As soon as the viewscreen was filled with the Gul's face, the bridge was filled with his voice, too. "Captain Williams! Why have you been ignoring my hails?"

"I was busy," Tim replied casually.

"My first officer tells me that you have Kotan Entek onboard your ship, as well as the computers from his laboratory. I want them transferred over to my ship."

"You didn't say 'please'."

"What?!"

Tim sighed in mock exasperation as he stood up and walked towards the viewscreen. "Brenor, Entek has commited crimes against Federation citizens, in Federation space. His creations down there have gene samples of multiple Federation species, meaning he could possibly have done even more against our people than we currently know. He's going to be tried in a Federation court of law, and that's not going to happen from your ship."

"We assisted you in your search for Entek on the understanding that he would be turned over to us once he was detained!"

"I never said any such thing, Gul Brenor!" Tim said, feigning mock indignity. "What I did say was that we would discuss the best way to move forward with jurisdiction once we had him. Now we have him, I'm telling you that that best way to move forward is for us to take him to Starfleet JAG on Starbase 126. You're more than welcome to accompany us there."

"This is outrageous! He is a wanted Cardassian criminal. Your superiors will be hearing about this, Captain!"

"Tell them; be my guest," Tim answered flippantly, returning to his chair. "It's not like they're going to be surprised." He hit the control on his console to cut off the communication.

[Sickbay]

Down in sickbay, Karil stretched his leg up, leaning back on one hand with a grimace. "You people really get off on torture, huh?" he grouched at the nurse attending him.

"Push your foot up against my hand," Shar replied flatly. "Now down."

"Gkhrtkk," Karil made an indistinguishable noise of pain. "Tzhali, I'm afraid it's just not working out between us."

"Knee toward your chest."

"It's not you, it's me."

Shar shook her head, pressing her lips together to avoid smirking. "I'm still showing some significant peroneal damage. I'm going to fit you with a mag insert, it'll restore your full range of motion until we can book you in for corrective surgery. You should have had this done on Earth, Agent."

"Well, you know me-" Karil started excusing himself, but he was interrupted by his newly issued commbadge chirping. He tapped it where it lay on the biobed. "Yeah?"

"We're departing Dreyas, if you'd like to come up and see it," an unnamed security ensign had taken the liberty of informing him.

Ordinarily, Karil wouldn't have been inclined. Faced with more of Nurse Shar's psychotic PT, he smiled broadly. "Count on it, Ensign. Karil out. Looks like that's my cue. So sorry. We'll have to do this again sometime." He hopped off the bed, favoring his left leg per usual.

Shar held out the small metal insert. "Stick this in your sock, Agent. Activator is on the side. Have fun."

He took the device and gave her a two-fingered salute, hopping his way out of the bay as enthusiastically as he could.

[Main Bridge]

On the bridge, the turbolift doors opened to reveal a Vulcan male clad in civilian clothing. There was a dead silence as he entered, the last words of the Cardassian Gul Brenor hanging irately in the air. Karil frowned, tilting his head to the side. "Nice guy," he added helpfully, gingerly stepping down into the command pit just behind the tertiary science station.

The communication line terminated abruptly. If it were possible for an inanimate ship's system to seem irritable, it most certainly was. McIntyre stood stoic at the rear of the bridge for a moment, making sure it was completely off before he spoke. "Want me to stick a torpedo up their tailpipe?"

"That'd be a waste of a perfectly good torpedo," Tim answered, looking around to where the security chief had entered. "Did you get any information from our guest?"

"Our friend Entek isn't exactly forthcoming with the information. I mean, the guy talks a lot but it's not been anything of any consequence. So far." The security chief offered apropos of nothing. He had spent a frustrating hour in the company of the Cardassian scientist to little avail. He had gleaned a few tidbits about the process of creating a drooling, evil monster but nothing which would be admissible in court.

"To be honest I didn't really expect anything different," the captain answered. "Well, if we're not going to find out out to deal with those creatures today, we'd better get moving before Brenor gets any ideas about sticking a torpedo up our tailpipe. Surak; set a course for Starbase 126, warp eight."

The Vulcan swiveled on his chair to face his commanding officer. He nodded clearly, and turned to proceed with the order. "Starbase 126, warp eight. Engaged."
