Checking In

Episode: Preparations
Location: Deflector Array Deck 6

ON:

Without full power to most of the systems such as the turbolifts while the ship was under its substantial refit, Petty Officer Jordan Cassidy got quite a workout getting to where Petty Officer Stiles was located on deck 6. Makeshift ladders and jeffrie tubes had become the normal way of getting around.

Eventually, she arrived and pushed open the hatch that led to where she needed to be. Though, having never been on an Intrepid class only during the academy's brief runthrough of the common ships of the fleet, Jordan had gotten herself turned around more than once and had to ask for directions. Which for the record weren't official for obvious reasons of the refit.

"Petty Officer Stiles?" Jordan finally said after drawing in a deep heart calming breath and stopping in front of one of the crewmen. The other being a female Andorian.

Avery looked up from the equipment trunk he was working on at the mention of his name. The voice was female and not one that he had heared before. He knew they were getting an influx of new crew, it was entirely possible that this was one of them. Or perhaps another officer that got lost as they upgraded the ship.

"Yes, can I help?" Avery asked.

"I'm Petty Officer Jordan Cassidy. Commander Reynard said I'd find you here." She gave a friendly nod towards the both. She looked around at the work being applied still trying to take in all of the logistics of it. "Makes you wonder if it would've been easier just to rebuild one with the needed upgrades."

"Not really," Avery said, with a shrug. "This may take awhile but it will take less time then building one from the ground up. Is there something that I can help you with, as you can see we're a little busy here."

"Yes, sorry. Umm, I'm the new Quartermaster and the Commander mentioned you'd be the one to help with getting PADDs, terminals and oh, also figuring out what all we'll be needing before launch..." Her eyes fell on a rather loud clank followed by rather colorful expletives down the corridor. "That didn't sound good." She muttered.

"Don't mind him," Avery said, with a wave of his hand. "That's Henderson, he spent the last three days down in sickbay after dropping tools on himself."

Jordan looked back at Avery with a soft shrug. "We've been given a temporary office in a utiity closet as an option, but, we can always work from the station, too if that'd work better for you." She moved closer with a delicate step over some conduits. She'd seen ships in shipyard docks before in different states of repair or being built from the ground up so to speak. But, not from right smack in the middle of one where it was all happening. And it was a bit overwhelming.  She was going to have her work cut out for her.

"No offense ma'am but office work isn't really my strong suit. This is, being in the thick of it I mean," Avery replied, gesturing to innards of the ships. "As for PADDs there are some down in cargo bay 2, that section just got opened up after a long overdue EPS overhaul. Terminals should be here by Tuesday... I think and then I can work on linking them to the network. Right now though, we're trying to troubleshoot about a billion lines of code that keep buggering up when we try and intregrate the secondary deflector's start up routine."

Jordan listened and took in what Avery was saying. And, understood about not enjoying being a desk jockey. She didn't either as her expression showed. "No, neither am I. Growing up around two brothers, I don't mind getting dirty." She followed his hand gesture and gave a nod with her hands on her hips. "Sounds like teaching an old dog new tricks with the routines. I'd be happy to help out, always better having another pair of eyes and hands." She offered and not really waiting for his permission stepped up to the plate anyway. "I've nothing to do right now until we get this mess of a refit situated. At least not unless someone comes looking for me." She added taking an oversized PADD from a nearby crewman and giving it a hard scrutiny of the current intinerary.

"Sure, how proficient are you at LCARS V2.4 coding ma'am?" Avery asked.

Jordan stiffened at the ma'am and l looked at him with a bit of annoyance. "First, call me Jordan. I'm not that old, and we're the same rank." She tapped on the PADD and analyzed the incoming data. "Second, I love LCARS coding." She then glanced over her shoulder. "It's not really that bad once you get the hang of it."

"We might be the same rank but technically you are in charge of me," Avery said, he glanced down at his PADD. "Oh Dios mío, would someone please tell ops to get their grubby little hands out of the index files."

Jordan gave a curt shrug while stabbing at the PADD with her index finger. "Whatever you're comfortable with." She lowered her PADD hand and turned to walk over to another exposed panel. "Always fun working with station ops." She sighed sarcastically.

"You're telling me," Avery grunted. "I swear these ensigns don't know their head from a warpcoil."

She moved to stand in front of an access panel, opened it then ran a set of diagnostics on the circuitry that ran to the main LCARS system Avery was working on for the deflector. After a few moments, she closed the panel and sent the data to him and exhaled. "There. Hope that helps" Jordan turned to walk over to Avery offering the PADD back to him she used. "Well, I should go and get my things and get settled. Think I'll talk with the station Quartermaster and try to get a jump on what we'll need."

"Sounds about right, remind him that I sent him a hardware request a week ago too. Maybe it will mean more coming from someone of slightly higher rank," Avery said, with a shrug. "Nice to meet you ma'am."

She moved to head down the makeshift maze that would hopefully take her to the cargo bay. Before disappearing entirely, Jordan half turned to look back at him. "If you need anything else, let me know, Avery." She then resumed to her destination.
