|Strengths & Weaknesses||Avery is extremely technical minded and enjoys solving complex problems. He likes solving puzzles and figuring out how things work. Due to the way that Avery's parents treated him, he sometimes has a hard believing that he is worth anything.
Sadly, this technical mindset can also lead him be a bit socially awkward. Something that was usually offset by his childhood best friend, however he has since gotten a little better in social situations.
|Ambitions||Eventually Avery would like to be the head of an engineering department someday, although given his NCO status he realizes that might not ever happen. He just wants to the best officer that that he be.|

|Family||Avery has a very strained relationship with both his parents. He hasn't spoken to them at all since he left for service aboard the Harbinger. Even before that, Avery and his parents didn't get along. His father, Alexander was a prominent subspace theorist and his mother a medical professor at Starfleet Medical.|
|Relationships||Avery's closet friend is Theo Vega. Avery considers Theo and Theo's mother, Miranda to be his only real family.|
|Friendships||Avery is best friends with Theo Vega.|
|Personal History||Avery was born on Tycho City, the Moon. His mother was a doctor that taught at Starfleet Medical and his father subspace theorist. Avery spent most of his youth with nannies and sitters, as his parents continued to pursue their professional lives. He was a curious child that loved puzzles and often took apart anything that he could get his hands on, much to the annoyance of his parents.
Avery met Theo Vega when he was ten years old and the two remained insuperable since. Theo and his mom welcomed Avery into their lives and eventually, Avery spent much more time at the Vega household then he did in his own him. Avery was an avid soccer player and star of their high school team.
Despite his apparent gift with technology and engineering, both Avery's parents felt that he was not living up to his potential and didn't take an interest in their sons activities.
When they graduated high school, Theo attempted to get Avery to take the Starfleet Academy entrance exam, Avery decided against it, partially because he didn't think he was smart enough to gain entrance. Instead, Avery reported for duty as a non-commissioned officer aboard the Luna class Harbinger.
|Education||Avery received all his training on the job. He has extensive first hand engineering/operations experience. He is pursuing a degree in warp mechanics from the Daystrom Institute on Earth. Avery also has a limited knowledge of shuttle maintenance and piloting systems, something that be picked up on the Cole.|
|Starfleet Academy||Avery is a non-commissioned officer, as such he has never attended the academy and instead has learned everything he knows from on the job training.|
|Early Career||Avery signed up for work on the USS Harbinger a Luna class starship. He was naturally drawn to engineering and operations, which was a good fit given his innate talent for taking things apart and putting them back together again. During the start of his career, Avery was quiet and still doubted his abilities. That all changed during the night shift when the ensign in command nearly collapsed the warp field due to an error in the warp field containment system that had gone unnoticed. Avery was able to correct the error and stabilize the field, much to the annoyance of the officer. He was promoted from crewmen to crewmen recruit for his actions.
Avery quickly made a name for himself and several officers wondered why he never went to the academy. He was smart, adaptable, and most importantly thrived on challenge. Avery spent the first two years of his career in Starfleet on the Harbinger before being transferred to the USS Cole, a Miranda class vessel. While on the the Cole Avery moved from engineering to operations.
|Later Postings||Thought some might have seen the transfer to a Miranda class as a step down, Avery enjoyed it. He loved working with the operations teams on upgrading the vessel. He helped design a new power coupling that increased the ships phaser array yield by 10%. This earned him another promotion to the rank of crewmen apprentice.
Avery spent the next 18 months on the Cole slowly making a name for himself. While there he met Navi Pren, a Bajoran ensign. The two slowly struck up a freindship and Navi even started teaching Avery martial arts - something he still studies today. Avery was eventually transferred to the Highlander and given the rank of petty officer 3rd class.
|USS Highlander||Avery has only been aboard the Highlander for a few week and has so far settled in nicely.|
