A Surprise Visitor

Posted on Mon Aug 15th, 2016 @ 5:40pm by Captain Tim Williams & Lieutenant Griffen Tanol & Doctor Rikka Takanashi M.D. & Lieutenant Ryan North

Episode: Lost Property
Location: DeSalle Sickbay
Timeline: MD05 0720hrs

Rikka lent on the side worktable as she studied the medical database of the DeSalle. Its previous doctor, a Lieutenant Thomas Elliot had left intense records of her crew health. According to Doctor Marriot he had been working on several different forms of new medicines, although there wasn't a clear explination at what they did. Rikka was hoping to try and see what he was trying to come up with.

The image on the screen flashed and then turned to an diagram of the imaging chamber. Rikka stared at the screen, the computer seemed to be doing some sort of diagnostic on the chamber.

"I haven't told you to do that" she said out loud. She reached out and tapped the screen to stop the diagnostic. The computer beeped several times, and just as fast as it turned off it turned back on again.

Rikka shook her head. What was the computer doing, it was like someone was there trying to countermand everything she tried doing in the sickbay. A warning klaxon began to sound and the lights dimmed. The imaging chamber on the side of sickbay began to fire up, its lights flashing and its console screen lighting up, showing what seemed to be test results. "Takanashi to Captain Williams," Rikka tapped her comm badge.

"Williams here. What is it, Doctor?"

"Something is happening in sickbay on the DeSalle Captain," Rikka replied as she approached the imaging chamber. She pulled out her tricorder and began to scan the equipment, hopefully finding out what it was trying to do.

"Someone has locked it in with the ships transporter systems" she said to herself as she tapped several buttons on her tricorder. A few sparks blew out of the side of the chamber. Rikka stepped back, letting it spark and blow out. Smoke bellowing out of it, its screen showing danger warnings.

"I'm on my way," the captain said over the comm.

Rikka stood by the doors as they opened. "Captain..." she said. But she was interrupted by the doors of the imaging chamber opening. The black and silver bed slowly slid out and stopped in the middle of the room. Rikka peered through the smoke, the bed wasn't empty like it was a couple of hours ago.

She ran over and immediately had her tricorder ready. "Captain" She said. "It's a man" she explained. "Human, male, roughly age twenty six" she pulled up some more results on her tricorder. She tapped it several times to double check.

"Captain..." she turned around to face him. "This is Lieutenant Thomas Elliot. The DeSalle's Chief Medical Officer.... However he's alive.... But still in a jar in the Highlander's sickbay...." she sat down on a stool. "OK, I'm confused..."

"They must have found a way to bring themselves back into our phase," Tim said, confused himself but impressed that the 200-year-old crew had found a solution faster than his own had, with all of their 24th-century computers and equipment. He tapped his combadge. "Grif, Ryan; get down to the DeSalle sickbay. You're going to want to see this."

His summons sent out, he stepped a bit closer to the man on the examining bed as the man groaned. "Erm, Doc? This guy doesn't look like he's doing so good."

Rikka ran her tricorder over the man quickly. She turned to face the others. "There's no time to get him to our sickbay" she said. She crossed the room to where the DeSalle's medical locker was and quickly pulled out some of the equipment. "Luckily for him, most of the old medicines on this ship have been pretty well preserved" she explained.

"I've always wanted to use one of these..." she muttered as she picked up the old hypospray. "I'm going to stabalise him, however I can do more for him on the Highlander" she explained as she injected the hypospray into his neck. "He should come around in a few minutes"

Ryan entered the sickbay just as the doctor was placing the hypospray against the man's neck. He didn't recognize the man and one look at his uniform told him that he was a member of the other ship's crew. How, he got on board, however was another matter entirely.

"Well, that's new," Ryan said, walking toward the other two officers in the room.

Ryan pulled his tricorder and started scanning the surrounding area, taking note of a small spacial distortion that seemed to be located inside what remained of the burnt out imaging chamber. He tapped a few more buttons before turning to address everyone else in the room.

"According to my tricorder there is a spacial rift inside the imaging chamber or what's left of it at any rate, it matches the same phase frequency as the DeSalle, the phased one that is."

"Woah." Was all Grif said as she followed Ryan into the sickbay and caught a glance of the imaging chamber, "Someone sure took that thing past it's limits." She strode quickly across the room and tested the chamber to make sure it wasn't hot. Rewarded by not getting burned, Grif ran a hand over the exterior of the chamber.

"Whoever modified the chamber on the other side knew what they were doing... but it wasn't even remotely designed for this. I'm amazed he even survived." She said as she crouched down to look into the chamber. "Is the rift still open?"

Ryan checked his tricorder. "No sir, looks like the rift closed. Not surprising considering the amount of energy that it would have taken to even open one to begin with. What's more concerning is this man's health status. I can't imagine traveling through the rift was all that pleasant."

"No... I can't imagine so." Grif said as she stood and turned towards the Captain, "Sir I'm going to need a bunch of equipment from the ship, engineering, science, etc. and the use of Mr. North here. If I can figure out what they did I could possibly figure out a way to get everyone back without the same side effects as crispy here." She said motioning towards the DeSalle's doctor.

"Get whatever you need," Tim said, as he turned his attention back to the wounded Doctor Elliot. "Is he going to be alright?" he asked of his own doctor.

"For now I think so" Rikka said as she tried using some of the old scanning equipment. "Beam me and him straight back to the Highlanders sickbay. I need better sensors to determine how to properly stabalise him and bring him round" she explained.

Tim tapped his combadge and gave the order for the beam-out, and watched as the pair of doctors de-materialised. "Let me know as soon as you find anything," he told his remaining officers who were still present. "In the meantime, I'm going to speak with Captain Chandrakala - see if she can explain why her chief medical officer has managed to turn the imaging chamber into a magician's hat."
