Captain's log, stardate six-eight-oh-nine-two point five. We've finished showing the leader of the colonists and his two experts the modifications Ethan has made to the cargo bay, and they seemed relatively happy with it. We've already started beaming up the rest of the colonists and we're making arrangements to bring their equipment into one of the other cargo bays.

They had a few questions to ask along the way, but thankfully I get the feeling that they're saving most of those for the trip to the Dreyas system. As much as I can appreciate the importance of colonisation efforts, I can't stand the dullness of answering questions about the aridity of the planet, or the potential psychological warning signs of someone getting whatever the opposite of cabin fever on a barren new colony might be. One of the many benefits of being a captain; delegation.

We'll be leaving orbit tomorrow as soon as we get all of the colonists and their equipment onboard. Unfortunately, that doesn't leave us much time to make adjustments to take into account a change I need to make to my senior staff.

Gaius - Commander Ra-Xialii - has put in for a reassignment back to Cestus to return to his advanced combat class. I haven't pried too deeply into his reasons, but I think he's still dealing with the loss of the Endeavour. He'll be staying on Cygnet Fourteen until a transport passes by to take him back to fleet headquarters, which leaves me with an empty seat on the bridge, and no time to find a replacement.

I've decided to complete Hawke's command tests and - providing he passes them - promote him to the position as soon as he is qualified. He's not got a lot of experience in command, but I have a feeling he'll work out well. Of course that means that at some point I'm going to need a new helm officer, but Hawke can double up until we get to that bridge.
