Captain's Log, Supplemental

It appears as though an accident on the out of phase DeSalle may give us a clue as to how to bring the crew of the ship back into phase with the rest of the galaxy. Through an unlikely combination of events, their chief medical officer was phase shifted whilst checking on a radiation leak in their imaging chamber - a kind of predecessor to our medical tricorder and sickbay sensors, which needed an individual to be placed inside the machine for it to do its work. The Doctor came through a little worse for wear, but I'm assured he will make a full recovery. Ryan, Grif and Jean all have a number of theories as to how this might have occurred, as well as how to reproduce it safely to bring the rest of the DeSalle crew back into our phase. I've set Ryan and Jean to testing out some of those theories, whilst I've asked Grif and Hawke to look into ways for us to separate the two DeSalle's - although the crew's recovery is our top priority, I would still like to be able to bring one of the two ships back to Cestus for Starfleet.

Counsellor Taylor has also pointed out to me a few of the psychological considerations we will need to take into account here. These people are essentially coming 200 years into their future, potentially onto an aged and battered version of the ship they currently reside on. Everybody they know will be long dead, and they could even be coming into a world where they have great-great grandchildren physically older than they are. All of the technologies that were revolutionary and top of the line when they left spacedock are now considered woefully obsolete by our standards, and the political make-up of the Quadrant has entirely changed - they went missing just before the founding of the Federation, which means even Earth itself will be almost unrecognisable to them. The counsellor has asked if we can see to allowing them to bring a personal item with them when we bring them through to our phase, which I will speak with Ryan and Jean about. It shouldn't affect the atomic mass of each phase too much so long as the item is small. I think we will also need to see to arranging some history lessons for the crew once we start our journey with them to Cestus III.
