Two Doctors. One Sickbay.

Episode:
Lost Property
Location: Sickbay
"So then. What you are telling me is that you no longer need to wash everything by hand anymore?" Doctor Thomas Elliot asked amazed as he followed Rikka around the Highlander's sickbay.
"Yes" Rikka explained. "We have much more technology in the medical field now. However I prefer not to always use it" she said.
"Its amazing though. I never imagined you could have such medical advances" Thomas replied.
Rikka sighed as if she was tutoring some newbie medical cadet at the Academy.
"Technology is amazing until it fails" She told him.
"How so?" Elliot asked in a curious manner.
"Well.... for example..." she paused. "I swore that I would never use one of these..."
"One of what?"
Rikka just looked at him, a 'you're not going to believe this' look on her face. "Computer, activate the EMH"
The Highlanders Emergency Medical Hologram appeared. He stood a few feet away from the two doctors.
"Please state the nature of the medical emergency!" he said.
Elliot seemed baffled and surprised at the sudden appearance of the man in front of them.
"What.... How..."
Rikka walked over to the hologram. "There isn't one. But Doctor Elliot here is from the Starship DeSalle. An old NX Class Starship from the 22nd century. He wants to know more about our medical technology" she explained.
"I'm a Medical Hologram, not a teacher!" The hologram protested. "If there is no emergency then deactivate me" he insisted.
Rikka ignored him and wandered over to the console. A holographic version of a Human appeared on the surgical biobed. He was dressed in Starfleet Uniform and seemed to be suffering from bad phaser wounds and several broken bones.
"The computer has programmed and provided us with a holographic patient so I can show you how we do things around here" Rikka explained. "However...." she said with a smile on her face. "I want you to lead his treatment, we'll then show you how we do it our way".
Elliot wandered over. Rikka and the EMH followed and Elliot seemed to be slightly confused at what a 'hologram' is.
"Whats a hologram?" he asked.
"Its a projection of light and forcefields to simulate an artificial environment or object" she explained. "I'm a Doctor, not an engineer. Don't worry about the technical bla bla bla."
Elliot picked up a hypospray. "I'm guessing this is some sort of injection device?" he asked.
"Yes. Its a hypospray. It works on the same principles that you know of, just a little more advanced" she explained. She watched as Elliot injected the man to stabalise his vital signs. Luckily he seemed like a quick study and seemed to be getting the hang of it. Rikka watched closely as he tried to patch up the mans wounds. He manually set the bone and then looked around for something to use as a splint.
"Do you have a splint?" he asked.
"Nope" Rikka said.
"How will I set the bone to heal then?" he asked seeming a little confused.
Rikka turned and opened up a locker pulling out a small device. "This device" she said. "Regenerated bone tissue and structure essentially... knitting; them back together" she explained. She placed it over the holographic mans leg. On the press of a button it began to hum softly to itself and a few blue lights in a line flashed. After a few minutes it beeped and Rikka took it off the leg. She passed Elliot a medical tricorder.
"Scan him now" she said.
Elliots eyes widened as he saw the results.
"Its healed. Infact its more healthy then it was before!" he exclaimed.
"Such a simple procedure..." The EMH commented. "Are you from the dark ages?"
"Can you turn him off?" Elliot asked.
"Deactivate him if you'd like" Rikka said.
"Now wait a minute!" The EMH protested.
"Computer... Deactivate the Medical Hologram" Elliot said. The EMH disappeared. "I like that" Elliot said a mischievous smile on his face.
"Well if you thought that was good.... You're going to love some of the stuff we do next" Rikka said back. "Because, I want to learn some of your ways".
[Four Hours Later]
Rikka lent against the glass window between the main sickbay and her office and wiped her forehead. Her black and grey tunic was now sprawled on her desk in the office and her sleeves had been rolled up. There was holographic blood on her hands and she was simply smiling. If anyone walked into the sickbay now they would think she was some sort of evil doctor.
"That was... intense" she said. A faint crying came from an incubator on the far side of the sickbay. Rikka walked over, wiping the blood off with her sleeves and lifted the lid on the incubator. "Shame she's holographic" she whispered to herself.
"Yeah. She's rather cute. But that was one interesting way of delivering a baby" Elliot commented.
"Well, in the terms of a medical emergency in a bad situation then sometimes you have to resort to using technology" Rikka explained. "Your method of natural birth is still commonly practiced, but if I hadn't of suggested a fetus transport we could have lost the mother and the baby." she explained.
Elliot smiled as he looked around the sickbay. It was now full of holographic patients the majority of them fully healed and 'on the mend'. Rikka and Elliot had shared their methods over the last few hours and together done dozens of different procedures. From healing a simple cut, to mending bones, deep phaser wounds, deliver a baby and even heart surgery. Rikka was rather pleased at the progress they had both made.
"So, do you think we've had a good day?" she asked.
"It would be made even better if we could end it on a good note as well" Elliot said giving the young woman a smile.
"How do you mean?" Rikka asked.
"Well, what do you do for fun in the 24th century."
"Fun?" Rikka asked tilting her head.
"I guess. What I'm asking, is would you want to grab a drink with me tonight? I still have a lot to learn, and who better to learn from you"
