A Chance at Redemption

Episode: Orphans
Location: Pike City, Cestus III
Timeline: Mission Day 01

Devoni stood outside the Chief Administrator's office in Pike City. He had been transferred once again but he really didn't know why headquarters was transferring him off the Nicholson. Was it something he did or something that the Nicholson CO didn't like about Devoni, he wasn't sure but just about everything was running through his mind at that moment.

"The Administrator will see you now Lieutenant." said the young female secretary behind the desk.

Devoni walked down the small hallway to the room at the end with the Chief Administrator label on it. The door was an old fashioned door with a door handle. Reaching up he rapped his knuckles on the door to let the Administrator know he was outside.

"Come in." came an old gravely female voice from the other side of the door.

Devoni turned the door knob and opened the wooden door. Walking into the room she saw an elderly woman who looked like she was halfway into her mid to late nineties sitting behind an cherry oak finished desk circa 1985. "Come in and have a seat Mister Jala. I understand that you had some questions or concerns you would like to have answered."

Closing the door behind him Devoni walked over to the desk and sat in one of the chairs. "Yes ma'am. I was transferred to the USS Nicholson as the Assistant Chief Medical Officer less than 2 months ago and then I get a notification to report to Cestus III for another transfer but I am not being told why I am being transferred or better yet where I am being transferred to."

"Well I talked with Admirals Ardelia McRaven and T'Shev and they wanted me to show you this." she pointed to the wall monitor behind them.

Devoni knew the two Admirals in questions. Admiral McRaven was the head of Starfleet Medical and Admiral T'Shev was the Judge Advocate General that oversaw his court marshal in regards to the USS Bradbury.

Devoni turned around and looked at the wall monitor. As it was activated the usual Federation symbol appeared followed by the elegantly youthful Admiral McRaven.

"Greetings Mister Jala."

"I hope this message finds you well. As you are still aware the investigation into your court marshal regarding the many lives lost aboard the USS Bradbury was a hard case for many of us back home. I have contacted Admiral T'Shev and she has completed another deeper and further investigation into your court marshal and has found no evidence that you were incompetent in your duties and ruled in your favor. She has concluded that during the battle the USS Bradbury was currently in at the time, the entire medical Staff was killed and only yourself and the ships EMH were the only Medical Personnel available."

"She has also put on your record that you should in fact not be punished for what you did but in fact be awarded with the Starfleet Surgeons Decoration as well as the Starfleet Decoration of Gallantry. She has also left me to deliver one last thing personally."

"Lt. JG. Devoni Jala. As the Head of Starfleet Medical I hereby re-instate you to Chief Medical Officer. You are to report to the USS Highlander under the Command of Captain Tim Williams as the ships Chief Medical Officer. Congratulations!"

The video faded and returned to the Federation symbol.

Devoni was speechless. Chief Medical Officer. He was actually going to be a Chief Medical Officer. He wanted to jump up and shout for joy but that would have to wait until later.

"Here are your transfer orders." said the Administrator as she handed over and Isolinear Chip.

Devoni took the chip.

"The USS Highlander is jut on the outskirts of the city. The local transporter can beam you in when you are ready to report aboard." said the elderly woman.

Devoni nodded and stood up. "Thank you for this wonderful news. You have no idea how long I have waited for this."

"Oh I can imagine. Dismissed."

Devoni turned around and left the office with the chip in his hands. He still couldn't believe it. But reality will soon be real enough.
