Enara was found by Captain William Tanner adrift in an abandoned shuttle in the Taurus Reach. Tanner, a freighter captain, took the infant home to his wife and they raised her as their own. When she was old enough, he took her on some runs as a junior member of his crew, wanting to turn the ship over to her when she was old enough. It didn't take him long to realize that while she had little affinity to the crewman's lifestyle, she DID have an amazing knack for languages. In a months, she picked up enough of the Ferengi Trade Language to turn him a tidy profit. So he encouraged her to study as many languages as she could, and she attained fluency in Romulan (All three dialects), Klingon, Tallarian, Andorian, and Lingkal. She remained as part of her father's crew until she was twenty. Then she found employment as the hostess to the Ferengi Arbitrator Tural, where she translated for him. She left when he started demanding more of her than just her skills as a linguist. When she was twenty six, she applied and was accepted into Starfleet Academy, majoring in Xeno Linguistics. While at the Academy, she met a young, brash cadet named Cody Fredericks, and though they were never more than friends, she cared for him on a deep level. He was the only male cadet who treated her like a person, not like a slave girl. He also taught her several forms of self defense. She graduated a year after him, and her first assignment was as a specialist on the Federation Trade Delegation to the Vask Sector. After three years in deep space on this mission, she asked for a starship assignment and was assigned to the USS Highlander. |
